Lead Game Designer

On top of continuously growing the world of Dying Light through a robust post-launch support plan for Dying Light 2 Stay Human, we're also working on an unannounced AAA Open World Action RPG set in a brand new fantasy universe; our biggest project to date.

Job Description

Your goals:

  • Support the Gameplay Team & Game Director in creation and implementation of new gameplay mechanics and systems for Dying Light universe and unannounced new IPs.
  • Become the champion of your designs carrying them through the full development cycle: from conception through iterations to release and support after launch.
  • Structuring the Game Design Team, assessing global seniority, assigning design owners to topics, and assessing the need for future hires and participation in the hiring process.
  • Collaborating with the Game Design Team, prioritizing and assigning tasks, discussing progress, tackling setbacks, finding solutions, sharing experience, providing feedback and coaching.
  • Collaborating closely with the Core Team to translate objectives and directions into proper features.
  • Actively taking part in the improvement/design of features for Dying Light,
  • Creating a framework for detailed designs and identifying requirements with co-leads, directors and production.
  • Looking out for improvements on workflows, tools & designers’ pipelines to push for efficiency.
  • Working closely with Production to plan the development roadmap and define goals.

Your daily tasks:

  • Manage the Game Design team, setting priorities and ensuring good communication between designers and other teams with the help of producers.
  • Mentor our game designers and help them grow in seniority, handling their career development.
  • Design gameplay mechanics and systems aligned with the creative direction, within the boundaries provided by the Game Director (challenging them if necessary).
  • Support the implementation of designed features in a structured manner, from prototyping through iterations and balancing to finally delivering the gameplay experience you envisioned, adapting the initial designs along the journey.
  • Help your fellow team members deliver their tasks by sharing your creativity, experience, and goodwill.

Qualifications

  • Senior experience in game design with at least 1 shipped AAA title as a Lead Game Designer or Senior Game Designer.
  • Proactive attitude and supportive understanding towards all members of the game development team.
  • Structured, professional approach to game design and game production methodologies.
  • Excellent communication skills; both written and verbal.
  • Very good command of English.
